Non-Discrimination Policy

Membership in and affiliation with Bruin Democrats and all rights and responsibilities associated with such a status shall not be contingent on a person’s actual or perceived: age, citizenship status, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, language preference, marital or parental status, national origin, physical appearance, political affiliation, race, religion or faith, religious affiliation, religious practice, sex, sexual orientation, source of income, veteran or military status, any other characteristic protected under California state or federal law, or any combination of these or related factors. 

Bruin Democrats does not tolerate harassment or discrimination in any form. Harassment and discrimination include but are not limited to: offensive verbal or written comments related to, or exclusion based on, any of the characteristics listed above; deliberate intimidation; following or stalking; unwanted photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact; unwelcome sexual attention; and patronizing language or action.

Anyone in violation of this policy may be warned, expelled from the event, and/or banned from Bruin Democrats, at the discretion of the Bruin Democrats Board.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns related to harassment or discrimination, please contact a member of the Bruin Democrats Board immediately. To the largest extent possible, reports of harassment will be kept confidential; usually, this means the reports will only be shared with Bruin Democrats Board members who are not involved in the incident and are directly dealing with non-discrimination enforcement, or with law enforcement/venue security if necessary or required by law.

The Bruin Democrats Board will help members contact venue security or local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment or discrimination to feel safe for the duration of the event, and will actively seek to resolve any violation of this policy in a timely manner with notification by a member.
